The courses were a pleasure to play and kept in good shape. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained, though the place is obviously older. Our golf group was large, and the only real downside was being split across different buildings. The rooms were clean, if a bit dark and dated. Food comes at resort prices: a side of fries at the bar was $17. I’d go back if the chance came up.
I don’t usually leave reviews, but Mission Inn Resort made me want to write one. Lawrence and Dee were so thoughtful and went out of their way to make the proposal feel just right, even though I was nervous. I asked my now-fiancé on the grounds, and the staff and atmosphere made an already amazing day even more special.
The waitress was super nice, but the dinner was awful. Two of us ordered grouper and it was rubbery; another had tuna that was brown and tasted funny, and the restaurant didn’t have soy sauce. The course also wasn’t as nice as it had been on our girls’ golf trip a few years ago, with big bumps in the grass and brown patches all over. There were six of us sharing three rooms, and all of them smelled funny and moldy. One room was especially bad, and they moved those guests to another. Our bathroom was disgusting: a dirty shower floor, an old razor cover on the shelf, two long hairs on the tub, and even a hair in my bath towel. Very disappointing. We will not be planning any more trips here.
After reading the hotel’s response, I feel it’s best for me and anyone I know to choose somewhere else in the future. They care 0 %. A couple of years ago we discovered this complex, loved its history and elegant landscaping, and had a champagne brunch there. It felt quiet, which was part of the charm, and we left a fantastic Google review. For our 10-year anniversary, I booked a stay at the hotel, which Google lists as 4 stars, and dinner at its restaurant. The confirmation came quickly. I later learned the restaurant was closed and dinner would be in another building, which was fine. The front desk staff greeted us warmly and wished us a happy anniversary. They upgraded our room, but the moment we opened the door, an overwhelming mold smell hit us. We needed allergy medication. There was also visible black mold around the patio area, which was concerning. The front desk was helpful and moved us to a second-floor room without the smell. It was spacious and elegant, with potential, though it needed renovation. The patio views were stunning. Inside, though, we both hurt our knees on the bed’s sharp corners; padding would help. I’d booked a package advertised as having newly renovated rooms, but was told all rooms were “renovated at the same time.” The moldy first-floor rooms should not be available to guests. Mold is a serious health hazard. I was also disappointed that nobody told us nearly everything was closed for renovations, including the pool, restaurants, and much of what makes the complex beautiful. For an anniversary booking, a courtesy call or notice would have gone a long way. With both restaurants combined in the Clubhouse, we had lunch and dinner there. It was a long walk, and nobody offered a shuttle. The flatbread at lunch was decent, but the salmon was overcooked and tasted rotten. The mashed potatoes had a strange hardened crust that we had to break through, making them seem old. Dinner was the “magical dining” experience. The onion soup was excellent, one of the best I’ve had, and the desserts were good, but the main courses were bland and disappointing. We told our server, but nobody followed up. Now that we’re home, my lungs still hurt, likely from the mold exposure. This was meant to be a special, romantic 10-year anniversary trip, but it was a major letdown. I felt misled because the extensive renovations weren’t disclosed, and I’d never recommend the hotel for such an important occasion.
I paid $64 for a weekend round and it was definitely worth it. The starter was really nice and gave us plenty of insight into the course. The layout’s great, the greens were running at an 11-12, and this is definitely one of my favorite places to golf. Very, very nice course. I’d return.
