The meals have been a highlight for me. I’d start with the scallops, and the steak, mutton, and chicken mains are all excellent. Dessert has been a win every time. I’d still like to see a burger or steak sandwich on the menu for a quicker, more casual dinner. The staff are consistently kind and helpful, and you can feel the care going into the place. I’ve stayed at Pocketbook a few times, and it’s become my preferred place to stay in Hudson. The rooms are stylish, welcoming, beautifully designed, and comfortable. On my first visit in November, shortly after opening, the hot water took a few minutes to warm up, though that hasn’t been a problem on later stays.

The sound was the biggest problem for us. We could hear everything from neighboring rooms, and water rushed audibly through an exposed pipe over our bed whenever the people upstairs used their faucet. Our room didn’t even have a ceiling. There are quiet-hour signs that mention the building’s “old bones,” but it didn’t seem like anything had been done to improve soundproofing. The bed was comfortable, but we barely slept. The Queen room was so tiny it could hardly fit two people. Its shower and toilet shared a space behind frosted glass, while the basin sat in the main room beside the closet. The building is beautifully restored, with exposed red brick, white walls, and minimalist decor, but it doesn’t work well in practice. The gravel parking yard across from the hotel, opposite the fire station, was muddy after the snow melted and made for a disappointing arrival. Our large window had a pull-down shade that doubled as a screen for streaming Netflix, a nice touch that wasn’t enough to redeem the stay. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially a first-floor Queen room.

The bar was a lively, inviting place, full of people each night, and the hotel is an easy walk from the main street while still being in a quiet area. The whole hotel, including the spacious rooms, was beautifully designed. Joe and the rest of the staff were friendly and extremely helpful, going out of their way to make our stay special. They even left a handwritten note and a bottle of champagne in the room for my fiance's birthday. I had a wonderful stay at Pocketbook Hudson and look forward to returning when the baths are open.

I’m a creative professional and a very tired mother, and Pocketbook Hudson made the whole stay feel restorative. I spent time absorbed in work, wandering around the bar, meeting new friends, and sipping martinis, then sank into the most comfortable bed in the loft suite. The bath was spacious and beautifully appointed, just right for a long soak, a robe, and a hair mask. Thoughtful service from the attentive team, complimentary morning coffee, and the perfect bone broth for breakfast all felt healing, inside and out. I felt cared for without anyone being intrusive. The property is artful and architectural, with bespoke design, one-of-a-kind objects, and thoughtful textures and materials throughout. There’s a sense that the place is just getting started. When the bath and spa open, it’ll be hard to beat for someone like me who loves a restful staycation.

We came for the annual Winter Walk and stayed in a Lounging Studio room. Every detail felt carefully chosen, with real thought put into both the design and comfort. Joe Hoffmann (Manager) deserves a big thank you for his genuine care, hospitality, and attention to detail, which made the whole stay exceptional. We can’t wait to return in a couple of months when the baths open, and expect this will be a place we come back to again and again.
