Americas Best Value Inn and Suites IAH Airport North

After Delta delayed my flight, we arrived to find the hotel looked much worse than its pictures. The first room smelled awful and had stains on the sheets and walls. It had just a bed and desk chair, with no couch or table. They moved us to a “nicer” room, though that still had stained sheets. A young employee was behind bulletproof glass, with someone coaching him over speakerphone. The only real plus is being near the airport, but so is a bench in the terminal, and I’d choose the bench every time. Delta should do better. Everyone else, be aware and stay away.

We checked in around midnight, and by 1 a.m. the heater still wasn’t working. The front desk said there was nothing they could do and no other room to move us to. They wouldn’t even send us to another hotel, despite the problem being theirs. With freeze warnings in effect and the room feeling like it was 10 degrees outside, I had to get a Lyft back to the airport at 2 a.m. I couldn’t afford another hotel and my flight wasn’t until 10 a.m. This was the worst customer service and safety experience.

Our flight was cancelled very late at night, and we booked here because it was one of the few nearby hotels showing rooms available. The man at the front desk was very rude and said there was no room for us. He blamed the website and claimed our booking wasn’t confirmed, though I had a screenshot saying, “You’re all set. Your accommodation is booked and everyone's expecting you.” That sure sounded like confirmation to me. After turning us away, he gave rooms to several people who arrived later. I spoke to one of them and learned he hadn’t booked ahead. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this place, especially if you’re in a situation like ours.

We were disgusted enough to leave at 2 a.m. and head to the airport. The room was crawling with cockroaches, including one in the bed, and people were outside talking loudly and walking around most of the night. We’d booked one night to be near the airport and won’t stay there again. The one bright spot was the front desk guy, who was very friendly and helpful.
