Scribner's Catskill Lodge

The restaurant Prospect was a highlight. The mountain views and carefully put-together menu made even a simple granola breakfast feel special and romantic. The menu is small, which we liked because it lets them focus on fresh, distinctive dishes. It isn’t cheap, but we thought it was worth it. We booked through Amex’s THC and Chase’s the Edit, and the property is also part of Marriott’s The Design Hotel. Partner bookings can include free breakfast and a $100 credit with a two-night minimum, though rates may be higher than booking direct. We spent four nights at Scribner’s in the off season and had a fantastic mountain stay, even with some amenities closed or not yet open. It’s very dog friendly: for a $100 per-stay fee, they provided a dog bed, bowls, potty bags, plus a bandana, toy, and treats for our pup. There are hardly any trash cans, though, apart from by the entrance. The sauna is now a larger one with 15-person capacity, instead of the small sauna that used to need reservations. For hiking, the “Rounds” trail is just five minutes from the lodge, and Kaaterskill falls is about ten minutes away. Guests can use two free Level 2 EV chargers. You’ll need the Chargepoint App, and Tesla drivers need an adapter. We’re already looking forward to another stay!

The lodge feels right next to the main road, which didn’t make for a cozy stay. The room was very enclosed and uncomfortable to hang out in by the fireplace, even though the fireplace looks great in photos. There was no water or coffee in the room, and the sheets felt like sleeping under paper. The whole lodge could use maintenance and some care. I took my girlfriend for a birthday trip we’d both been looking forward to for years, and we were disappointed. We paid $919 for two nights, Thursday and Friday. That felt like an insane price for a three-star hotel, though the hype had made me think it might be worth it. We stayed in a queen room in the lodge. Maybe I’d consider going back if we stayed in the rounds, but this visit left me a little heartbroken. The Lodge wasn’t good value for money.

All the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We loved our little room with a balcony, mountain view, comfortable bed, and the amenities around the property. It was very dog friendly and made our pup feel at home. We also had some excellent meals at Prospect. Can’t wait to come back soon!

The pet welcome here felt thoughtful. They gave our dog a bandana showing whether they’re extroverted or shy, plus a toy, snacks, a clean and comfortable bed, and food and water bowls. Pets can go into all the spaces without any hassle, which made the stay even better. It’s a genuinely pet-friendly, welcoming place in Hunters, New York. Fall and winter have a spectacular atmosphere, with warm, cozy areas and different spots to relax, spend time together, and have dinner. The restaurant is very good, and the bar is especially cozy.
