Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Huntington

We used the hotel as a base for a few days exploring Huntington and the surrounding area. It sits on a hill away from downtown, so you can’t walk to the main attractions, but most places are only a 10-20 minute drive. I liked that better than downtown, where parking seemed sketchy and cost more. The included parking and very friendly staff were a plus, and the lobby looked great. Our room had a lovely view. Breakfast was included and really good. The room was smaller than I’d have liked, with no sofa or comfy chair, just an office chair by the desk. Still, it’s a fine place to stay. :)

The hilltop location gives you a view out back, but keep winter in mind. Parking was okay, though getting my large motorcoach around the lot was tough. It would help if they blocked off spaces for large vehicles staying overnight. Otherwise, you may have to leave a bus, coach, or limo in the gravel lot across the street. I was there for three nights in a king room. The size was decent and it was pretty clean, with a mini fridge, microwave, and small coffee maker. The coffee maker was so dusty and dirty inside that I cleaned it before using it. The continental breakfast was decent, with good eggs and choices. The first night they didn’t turn over the room, despite the TV menu advertising daily housekeeping. When I asked the next day for coffee and towels, the front desk attendant said they only did that every other day, but she did give me more single-serve coffee and a couple of towels. They straightened and turned over the room properly the following day. There’s extra tea, sugar, and creamer in the lobby. I liked the turbinado sugar. Employees were helpful and accommodating, and it was a decent stay.

The staff were super friendly, and the view and patio are great. The room was nice, with a huge shower. The bed was somewhere in the middle, not the best but not the worst. Breakfast started a little late for a weekend.

The desk staff were kind, but this second stay left me thoroughly disappointed. There was damage around the window, the bed was very hard and dirty, and I found a nearly empty liquor bottle in the room. I was pregnant and traveling with a toddler, so I wasn’t satisfied. It sucks to pay higher-end prices for a low-quality room.
