I’ve stayed here several times while visiting the nearby hospital, and each time they put me right next to a loud room despite two thirds of the rooms being empty. They must know the walls are paper thin. Why pack guests next to each other when there’s space? Housekeeping could walk another fifteen feet down the hall, and guests wouldn’t wake up to somebody else’s child or dog.

We paid about $630 for two nights because we had tickets to the Healing Appalachia music festival. We arrived at 3 hoping to check in before the concert started at 3:30, but had to stand in the lobby until 5, a full two hours. They said they didn’t have enough staff to clean the rooms. I even offered to clean mine myself. The staff acted like the trip I’d paid so much for revolved around them. With the heavy traffic, I missed 80% of the festival that day, including acts I’d waited years to see. Nobody apologized or offered any customer service. It was expensive and upsetting, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Surge pricing means paying a premium for barely acceptable conditions. The place is aged and grimy.

We stopped here at the last minute on our trip home this weekend. The staff were very friendly, and the woman working the buffet was darling. It was the best free breakfast we’ve had, and we appreciated the holiday spirit at this location. The only downside was hearing the TV in the next room. Maybe it was a fluke, or maybe the walls are thin. Either way, we’d stay again.

The staff stayed calm, professional, and pleasant, and beautiful. But I’m sorry, people need to know about this: there were bugs everywhere, and they buzzed past my ears when I was trying to sleep. Some may crawl up your legs too. Staff said they were harmless and seasonal, but it felt like an infestation. Other hotels and places I visit don’t have them, and being in season isn’t a good excuse. The AC didn’t work well either. I was offered another room, but it still had bugs. I slept less than a couple of hours during my two-night business booking, then checked out after one night and asked for a refund for the second. The walls are thin and you WILL hear EVERYTHING. Doors slam! You can learn a lot from Hampton Inn in Abingdon, VA. That’s the best one, and its doors don’t slam at all.
