Azul del Mar

Two days before my planned arrival, the hotel canceled my reservation through an Expedia message that made it look as if I had canceled. I called right away, but no one could give me any answers. An hour later I got another message saying there was a plumbing issue. They didn't try to help me find another place, even though their sister resort next door had vacancies. I was scrambling to find somewhere to stay on vacation after already paying for flights. Only 2 to 3% of properties had openings at that time, so my choices were limited and I had to split my stay between two places. They refunded my money, but booking later cost me $700 more. They should have offered some support. I hope this helps others avoid dealing with this unprofessionalism.

The room and location were lovely, but getting in was a mess. We arrived in the evening after a rough drive in bad weather, then spent about 30 minutes walking around in the dark trying to find our room and get access. The check-in instructions contradicted each other. They told me to look for an "office" with a front-door sign listing room locations and Wi-Fi details, but I never found it. I asked other guests, including people from the property next door, who tried to help. There was no after-hours contact information. I'd been trying for a couple of days to get clear check-in details, but just got the same instructions again. When I said I didn't understand, they kept repeating them, while automated texts said someone would get back to me in the morning. Maybe they're used to guests who can make sense of contradictory directions, but being stuck outside in the dark with my wife was miserable. I probably should have canceled, even without a refund.

In Sep 2025 I stayed in the Boat House room, next to the closed office. Check-in was online, and the sign on the office door said Amoray Dive resort would also help Azul clients. The Main House was 30 yds from my room, but I didn't hear any noise. The grounds were quiet, with lots of places to lounge and plenty of parking. The small beach and pier let you use kayaks, paddle boards, and snorkel, or sunbathe for free. My room was clean and the AC was cold. Water pressure was medium and the shower head was meh, but the hot water kept running for 20 min without running out. I'd recommend it in the off season. I don't know if I'd stay here at $200 a night. For that cash, I'd go to Amoray.

The location is very good, the grounds are pleasant, and the staff were very good too. But we stayed in the Caraïbe room, and the photos tell the main story: the first one on the hotel's website is for that specific room, while the second shows what it actually looks like. That gap is really unacceptable. I won't write a long review when the attached pictures speak for themselves.
