Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Huntsville by IHG

The bed was unbelievably hard and uncomfortable, the worst I've had at a Holiday Inn. Honestly, the floor and a sleeping bag might have been better. The owners need to buy better beds, since a good night's rest is the whole point of staying. In the replacement room the AC was quiet, which was a relief for a light sleeper, but the bathroom door stuck badly and needed a lot of force to close. The first room had an AC unit making a horrible noise, though luckily they had another room available. We'll stay somewhere else next time we're in town.

We haven't stayed at the hotel, but this was our second time using its EV charger and we love it. The employees are really friendly and even gave us freshly made free cookies. My son was so excited about them. If they're this nice to people charging their cars, I can only imagine how they treat their hotel guests. I'd recommend it if you need a hotel in the area.

The complimentary breakfast was decent, with a little variation in the selection from day to day. Snacks, light meals, and drinks are available around the clock beside the front desk for a small charge. The rooms could use updating. The furniture and bathrooms show their age, and if you don't bring a charging cube for your phones, tablets, watches, or other devices, you won't be able to charge them. During check-in, the front desk staff were eating pizza and seemed annoyed that I was holding them up. I also noticed staff vehicles in the closest spaces, including one parked in the driveway right by the entrance.

A live cockroach was in my room. When I reported it, they acted like it wasn't much of a concern and just asked if I wanted another room. I was in a handicap room even though I'm not handicapped, so I searched further to make sure there weren't more bugs. I took photos of the room's poor cleanliness: damaged furniture, mold in the AC unit, areas that hadn't been cleaned before check-in, stains on the curtains, and walls in bad shape. At $110 a night, I wasn't expecting an immaculate room, just the bare minimum. They took $20 off the bill. Corporate would only offer points when I discussed the incident, but after this, who would want to use points to come back?
