The hotel is set back from the busy parts of town, with quiet traffic from the service road, but most places are only a couple of miles away. There's plenty of parking on several sides of the building, so you can park near the exit closest to your room. We heard geese in the morning, suggesting there may be walking areas by the river, but we arrived in the rain and didn't explore them. We didn't have time to try the hotel bar or restaurant, though the front desk placard showed a tempting variety at reasonable prices. Breakfast had a decent range of hot, cold, and grab-and-go items, plus sugar-free waffle syrup, but very few dairy-free or gluten-free choices. The coffee tasted good. The rooms looked recently updated, but parts of the bathrooms and showers in both rooms needed more work. We had a small room mix-up on arrival, which the front desk woman sorted out quickly. The stairs and upper floors creaked a lot, and in the second room, right below one stairway, we could hear every step until people reached their rooms. The rate felt high. I'd stay again if I needed to be in the area, but not for what I paid.

We stayed on the second floor during the second weekend of the State Tournament, and that room was a better experience. The first weekend we had a first-floor room, which was a bit dated, with several roof leaks in the walkways by the vending machine. I remember when this was the Vic, the Victorian Inn, and much of its architectural style has been covered by Days Inn logos. The front desk staff were friendly. I didn't see housekeeping, so I can't comment on those employees, but there were plenty of towels and the sheets were crisp and clean. There was plenty of parking. The hot breakfast was okay: the omelets and hash browns didn't look good enough to eat, but the waffles were tasty and there were other grab-and-go options like yogurt.

The pool is small, but kept really warm, which was nice. There isn't a hot tub or sauna. The rooms are pretty standard and nice enough, though I don't know what the suites are like.

Friendly, helpful staff and a really good breakfast. The room was quiet and clean, and the bed was comfortable.

The place looks remodeled, which is a plus, but whoever did the work should be fired. Water damage was obvious on the second-floor ceiling tiles, and the pool was overflowing onto the hallway carpet, with mold visible in places. The fridge was loud, the bathroom was disgusting, and the fan didn't work. The whirlpool tub was out of the question for me. There was also a gap beneath the doors that seems like it could be a fire safety issue. If they'd put another 20% effort into finishing the remodel, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to review it. Definitely not worth what we paid.
