Hyannis Plaza Hotel

I travel often and usually move on without writing a review, but this was bad enough that I feel I should warn people. After checking in, I went into the room and left within half an hour. The place felt neglected: peeling paint, rusty hinges, damaged door frames, cracked walls with poor patches, moisture damage along the baseboards, and a makeshift latch that didn’t feel secure. It wasn’t what I expected from a booked stay. I tried right away to reach a manager about a refund since I hadn’t stayed the night. The manager was supposedly never available. Nobody followed up or returned my calls, and I never got a refund. I’ve attached photos so people can judge for themselves. There are much better places in Hyannis. Spend your money somewhere else.

I checked in after dark as a solo traveler and was so uneasy that I checked out in under an hour, even after trying to convince myself it would be safe to sleep there. The hotel was nearly empty in the off season, and they put me in a dark, deserted hallway. At the desk, someone made a scary comment about parking lot cameras being able to see into the rooms. In the lot, a woman was screaming and fighting with a man. Items were piled in front of hallway fire exits. The room and bathroom also seemed unclean. I found dead bugs in corners, lots of cobwebs, a hole in the bathroom ceiling, hairs in the Jacuzzi, and a broken Jacuzzi knob left on the tub’s edge. The bathroom handle wouldn’t latch.

We got a pretty nice stay for the price over a long weekend. It’s not fancy, but the location is great, close to downtown shops and bars. Our room was fairly clean and spacious, and the tub was great. The staff were friendly and left us alone, which suited us. I’d recommend it for a weekend away.

The location made it easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and sightseeing, and the staff kept our towels and linens replenished each day. We also liked the in-room jacuzzi tub, which worked well and had clear directions. The rest of the room was disappointing. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, there were no spare pillows or blankets, and a strong musty, almost moldy smell hit us as soon as we entered. The room looked dingy and poorly updated, and the hallways and common areas were noticeably dirty too. Our bathroom door wouldn’t lock, there was no basic hand soap, and the parking lot felt a little sketchy at night.
