I needed laundry done while moving into a house in Michigan without electricity yet. The hotel had a washer and dryer, and I did four loads. Before one wash had finished, someone pulled my clothes out so another person could use the machine. I found everything soaking wet on the floor and had to redo the laundry. From the start, the door wouldn't open normally. You had to reach underneath the handle and pull down. The desk person kept telling me that, but it still wouldn't open, and he made fun of me. My dad complained, pointing out it was the only room without a new lock, and then they finally fixed it. The service was awful from the start. They argued, communication was difficult because of a language barrier, and they got defensive when I tried to pay with a card I was authorized to use. They demanded the physical card my father had with him elsewhere to book one extra night. They said I had to come in with the card and his ID, though they hadn't asked for either initially, and then said the booking hadn't been done properly. I still couldn't get a straight answer about whether I had a room that night. I forgot I worked there, apparently, and should have known the right way to do it. This is the nastiest hotel I've stayed in during my 41 years, after traveling around the world and staying in places from cheap to expensive. I thought it would be fine since I only needed somewhere to sleep, but it was a nightmare. I wouldn't stay here or send an enemy here. It's not worth even $40.

We switched rooms without any trouble, which was probably the only positive part of our stay. Renovations were underway in the other building, so maybe things will change in the future. We chose this place because it was the cheapest option, and I wouldn't do that again. The area felt sketchy, and our ground-floor room was extremely dirty and smelled strange. We were worried about the deposit after reading other reviews, so be careful about that. We didn't want to stay in the room and only came back late. The smell and dirt made us feel unsafe and concerned about our health. It could have been black mold. We were also seriously worried about bedbugs, though we didn't get any. I'd have happily paid more to avoid staying here.

I travel for work Monday through Thursday most weeks and usually choose a Red Roof. But some locations, including this one, add a $100 deposit. The internet shows $44 a night, while walking in costs $77 after tax, and with that deposit it can end up costing as much as much nicer chains.

A quiet place to unwind for the night, and I’ve never had a bad stay here. I’ve been here several times before and came back a handful of times recently. The staff are friendly and understanding. I’d recommend it. Thanks, guys!

The towels had been put back up even though they were dirty, with hair, makeup, and stains I couldn’t identify. It was pretty disgusting. The bathroom needs a remodel too: paint was peeling, and there was black mold on the ceiling, around the vent, and by the tub. Scratches in the door and molding were deep and hadn’t been repaired. It looked as if a dog had been shut in there for hours.
