Royal Inn

My family and I had a horrible stay. We didn’t get our deposit back because they falsely claimed we took towels, even though hardly any were provided. Housekeeping took towels and didn’t replace them, leaving one partial set for four people. The environment felt unsafe, with police at the property almost every night. There was also a serious rodent problem: we caught eight mice in one week, including three in one trap in a single day. The TV didn’t work either. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

The location was the one thing I liked. There are plenty of places nearby to eat or shop, including a dollar store, gas stations, restaurants, fast food, and groceries. But the hotel itself was another story. People who seemed sketchy were around at all hours, and I wouldn't feel confident leaving my car or anything inside it there. The building looks very old, even with some remodeling, and I think it needs to be torn down and rebuilt. I went there to meet someone, but couldn't sleep there. I don't know how anyone rests comfortably in that place.

The owners don't seem to maintain the property, and the rooms weren't cleaned as claimed. There seemed to be drug activity around the hotel, so be mindful of your surroundings if you stay at Royal Inn. It once served homeless people in Marion County through Family Promise of Greater Indiana, and I can see it helping someone with no other option while they work toward something better. We won't stay at a Royal Inn again. The door lock in our room didn't work, so make sure to use the latch. There was no switch or bedside lamp, either, which meant getting out of bed to turn the light on and off. The hotel smelled like Indian food throughout, even on the second floor, and there's no elevator. If the weather is bad, satellite TV means you may have no TV at all. Check-in and checkout were handled by someone at a kiosk even though two people were behind the desk. In our first room, there was a takeout box, a drink, and a colored drink spill on the bottom. When I asked for someone to clean it, two staff members first ignored me, then told me to speak with the woman at the kiosk. With no nighttime housekeeping, they moved us to another room. It was a little better, but the trash can still had someone else's trash in it.
