TownePlace Suites by Marriott Indianapolis Downtown

The room was clean and had a walk-in shower, which I prefer. The staff were friendly and handled check-in and breakfast well, even with the marathon making things busy. TownPlace Suites has the larger rooms you'd expect from a suite hotel, and there's also a bar for drinks. It's a good location for a football game or other event at Lucas Oil Stadium, and downtown isn't far. A good experience overall.

I found out the day I checked out that I'd left a necklace in room 502, a large stone pendant my father made so I'd always have a reminder that he was my rock. He has Parkinson's, so losing it has been devastating. I returned that afternoon, after the room had already been cleaned, but nothing had been turned in to lost and found. Michaela at the front desk went up to check whether it had slipped under or between furniture, but couldn't find it. I wanted to file a police report because I believed it had been stolen, but staff encouraged me to wait in case it was tangled in the laundry. I emailed Michaela a photo and was told someone would follow up soon. No one ever did. Neither the hotel nor Marriott Bonvoy Customer Care replied to my emails. I offered a reward, no questions asked. It's just river stone and worthless to anyone else, but I have no way to know whether management passed that offer along to housekeeping. I feel that if the room had one housekeeper and staff knew I'd left something, they should know who cleaned it. Instead, I'm facing the hassle of trying to file a police report from out of state, with little hope of getting the necklace back. I'm a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member and travel often for work. I won't return to this location, and I'll tell people in my company who travel to Indianapolis to avoid it. I'm seriously considering moving my loyalty to Hilton. The way this apparent theft was handled felt dismissive and uncaring. You need to be able to trust hotel staff to turn in items guests leave behind and for management to take the concern seriously. I'll pursue the matter with local law enforcement and possibly immigration enforcement to the fullest extent possible.

The location is great for walking around the city, with Historic Slippery Noodle only a few minutes away, and it's especially handy for a game at Lucas Oil Stadium. We paid about $489 for three days and two nights. I would have given five stars if the room had been clean. In our first room, 210 I think, we found stained sheets, hair and what looked like bodily fluids on the bed skirt, and stained bathroom towels. Abigail at the front desk moved us straight away to room 410, which was much better, though it still had some issues.

The stay was pretty good for the one night I was there. I left a car key fob behind and have called more than four times to ask if the hotel found it. They take down my number each time, but no one has called me back. It's been nearly a month with no update.
