Economy Inn LAX

The hotel is older and a little run down, but it did the job for my quick trip to LA. Check-in was prompt, and the gentleman at the front desk was very nice.

The hot tub overflowed and wouldn’t drain while it was spilling. I paid 200 for a room with a hot tub, but there was no TV remote, and smoking inside wasn’t allowed. The room was big and had everything you’d want and need.

We’ve stayed in sketchy hotels before while waiting for flights, but if I’d known what this place was like, I would’ve paid a little more for a safer area and a better night’s sleep. The neighborhood was rough, with sirens, screaming, barking dogs, fighting, human feces on the sidewalk, homelessness on every corner, and tires screeching and horns all night. Police came at 4 am to break up a domestic violence incident next door. Our Uber driver even said we were brave or dumb to stay there, and said his friend had been shot and killed across the street a few weeks earlier. The room had a terrible odor, like mold or mildew, strong kitchen cleaner, and curry. There was a wall flower plugged in when we arrived, but it only added a floral scent to those smells. Other than that, the room was okay, with a mini-fridge, cable TV, and A/C. The walls were paper thin; I could hear a fire alarm chirping three rooms away on another floor. The window didn’t lock all the way either.

We got checked in quickly around midnight, and they gave us everything we asked for, including a kettle and cutlery. The hotel is modest but clean, with a very large, comfortable bed and a good price. It’s close to the airport, easy to reach the beach from, and there are lots of shops and services nearby. Free parking too.
