Holiday Inn Los Angeles - LAX Airport by IHG

The shuttle made for a rough arrival. After a travel day that began at 4:00 a.m. in Des Moines for a 5:45 flight, we waited over 60 minutes in the hot sun at LAX pickup, watching vans from other hotels go by. The shuttle had no A/C and no windows that opened. After around 40 minutes, I called the hotel, but only got a recording saying the shuttle runs every 30 minutes, with no way to reach a live operator. Rebecca at the front desk turned things around once we got inside. She welcomed us, let us check in early, checked with housekeeping herself to confirm the room was ready, and contacted her manager to arrange breakfast for us the next morning. Those gestures meant a lot after our arrival. Price and location help bring guests in, but service is what makes them return. Dahlia at the front desk went out of her way to help my son gather all the limited edition World Cup pins from a Coca Cola promotion. We really appreciated how thoughtful she was. The employees were friendly and helpful throughout, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It was an excellent stay, with a nice location for exploring L.A.

The airport shuttle was easily the worst part. They say it runs every 30 minutes, but with LAX traffic I waited 65 minutes after reaching the pickup spot. At about the 40-minute mark, I called the hotel and got a recording repeating the 30-minute schedule, with no way to speak to anyone. After a 14 hour flight, that wait was tough. The Holiday Inn Express LAX was otherwise average. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was a decent size though a little dated, and there were a few coffee and food options nearby. It can work for a short stay near LAX if you find a decent rate, but the shuttle was really disappointing.

Blood on the bathroom walls and on the light switch was the last straw. I was at this Holiday Inn for only one night during a flight transfer, luckily. The “fresh” towels were stained, as was the carpet. I spoke with the manager Erick the next morning to explain that exposing guests to this is a serious health hazard. I can’t imagine how little time or care went into the rest of the room, or into the rooms this person is responsible for “cleaning.” As a physician, I’d avoid this hotel and spend the money to stay somewhere else for your health.
