The Happy Lady at the office deserves five stars. She was cheerful, though the locked waiting-area door and closed window made it feel like the place was saying, “Go away.” The motel’s style is hard to identify, maybe Italian. I was in room 204, up curved stairs only. They’re quite a sight, but after I fell out of my box truck, every step made my knee burn. I refuse to explain the truck fall further. The soda machine was broken, so I had to cross an L.A. street and walk down a block for my Doc Pep. I’d taken an Uber there. The room seemed freshly painted, with new laminate floors and two crisp white double beds. But it was gray and sterile, with recessed lights and no lamps, wall art, coffee maker, phone, clock, rug, sofa, or comfy chair. Worst of all, there wasn’t even a plastic or paper cup for water. It reminded me of what I imagine a psych unit might look like. This Lyfe Inn & Suites in Los Angeles gets two stars from me, with potential. It needs warmth, or at least a paper cup.

My partner and I were coming from overseas and had booked this hotel 10 months ahead, but they canceled on us just three days before check-in. They offered a low price, then canceled, and it felt like they wanted people to pay more. That’s a terrible way to do business. I don’t understand how it’s legal, and it feels dishonest. If you want peace of mind on holiday, I wouldn’t recommend booking with this company.

The room was large and comfortable, with good beds, a shower, fridge, and TV. WiFi was available but slow. Staff were friendly, there was surprisingly little road noise, and parking was on-site. The pool was another plus. It’s very close to the airport, with lots of food options nearby.

The staff were really nice, but the room was disgusting. There was dirt on the sheets that looked like pee, and the bathroom walls looked neglected and dirty. There was no hair dryer or toilet paper holder, and I could hear everything from the room next door.

We came from San Diego to watch the Charger game, and my fiancé wasn’t happy at first. Then Simmy at the front desk helped us out, and everything changed. She was extremely kind, courteous, and helpful. The whole stay went well, no pun intended.
