The homemade breakfasts alone make this place feel worth the price, and there's free street parking too. You won't be stuck with dry bagels, cold cereal, or a daily parking charge. The Plume Grove Inn is a lovely writer's retreat, especially for people attending The Iowa Summer Writing Festival, just minutes away. It's quiet and comfortable, with a roof patio where you can bring a notepad or laptop and enjoy the sun, plus great wifi. The owner is thoughtful and kind without hovering. The building feels contemporary but has plenty of history in its details. A really special place to spend a little time.

Shelly and Thomas are so easy to talk to, flexible, and funny. When I had to leave for work much earlier than expected, Shelly couldn't cook breakfast on the short notice, but she went out of her way to put out fruit I could take along. The rooms feel comfortable and homey, and breakfast is delicious. She also cooks gluten and dairy free for people with sensitivities like me, and does it really well. I'm staying here now and it's been absolutely amazing.
