Comfort Inn Jackson I-40

The rooms looked updated, and the hotel was nice. Breakfast was typical for Choice hotels. The room was quiet apart from traffic noise from I-40, and the location felt a little off-putting because the hotel sits behind some abandoned buildings.

I was there for a Mountain bike race. They let us bring bikes inside, and the staff made room for a bunch of teenagers. After I checked out, I realized I'd left a jacket behind. The cleaning staff and receptionist handled the lost property process smoothly and pleasantly. Room 19 was nicely prepared, and everything else was good. It's a clean but slightly worn chain hotel by an Interstate ramp. Over both days, there was a persistent, very slight musty smell in the room. Maybe the carpet had been cleaned and wasn't fully dry.

The late-night check-in staff were very friendly, and the beds were firm and comfortable. The bathrooms were fully updated and very clean, with blackout blinds and an AC unit that worked well. The luggage bench was the one slightly worn item, but I liked that it could hold two carry-on suitcases off the floor and double as a padded seat for putting shoes on. The rooms had a slightly odd smell, not smoky or dirty. It made me check that it wasn't smoke, mildew, or dirt, so it did affect my first impression. Maybe management could try skipping air freshener or ozone treatments. Most of the room was exceptionally clean, but there was mold around the showerhead outlets, where the water comes through. It just needs a quick scrub with bleach cleaner. That's minor, though it stood out because everything else was so clean.

The staff members were polite, but our room smelled of mold. It seemed to be coming from the AC or the damp, moldy carpet. All three of us woke up with stuffy noses. We tried to check out early, but they said they couldn't adjust the booking because of the promotion. Now there's an extra night charge on my account, even though I'd already been charged for both nights. Please don't stay here if you value your health.
