I bought my wife a getaway here for Christmas, but we were very disappointed. At $450 a night, the price is ridiculous for an old, outdated inn with a terrible room. There was no coffee maker in the room, the TVs were old and not smart, and there was no Roku or smart stick. We couldn’t get a hot shower, just lukewarm water at best. My wife took a bath and the faucet was very loose, with only lukewarm water. I’m sensitive to allergens and reacted to either the dirty carpet or dusty old chairs. The people above us were so noisy around 10 pm it sounded like they were coming through the ceiling. Breakfast was included, but at this price the value was poor, and paying $25 for it was way out of touch. As a professional chef, I found it very disappointing. I ordered eggs Benedict with home fries and bacon, a basic benchmark dish, and it arrived cold. The hollandaise was a powdered Sysco product. The waitress said there was a chef cooking, but in my 45 years of professional cooking, this seemed like sous cook work at best. She also said the deep fryer was having problems, so the home fries had to be cooked in a dry pan. The red potatoes were raw, probably QVC pre-cut reds from Sysco. I ordered a small blueberry pancake on the side; the bottom was burnt, it had only four blueberries, and it tasted like a box mix. Fresh homemade batter is easy to make, and this told me a lot about what was happening in the kitchen. If this is what they serve for a $25 breakfast, there’s no way in hell I’d go there for dinner. The dining room was the only clean and updated area. The Inn was dirty and far too expensive. They market it as a boutique inn, but that was a mistake, and it’s a one-shot deal. We’ll never go back. It’s not even a one-star inn.

We checked in on 2/9 for two nights in a third-floor room. On the way up, I was stuck in the elevator for over 10 minutes, then managed to get myself out on the second floor. I carried my luggage up the stairs, found the room clean and spacious but dated, then went back down all three flights to tell the manager. She confirmed the elevator was broken. I asked for a first-floor room, but was told there weren’t any. I wasn’t pleased, so I went back up and unpacked. The manager later called and offered to move us to a guest cottage behind the Inn. I repacked, dragged our suitcases down three floors and out to the cottage, without a porter. The cottage was a downgrade, with an unnervingly bouncy slanted floor and even more dated decor. We weren’t refunded the $50 price difference. The heat pump was impossible to regulate and completely inadequate for the space, which really shouldn’t be occupied in winter. The second night brought about 3-4 inches of snow, but nobody shoveled the path from the cottage to the Inn, and the stairs were icy and improperly treated. The staff were pleasant, but that didn’t make up for the property’s shortcomings. This wasn’t the luxury stay I expected, and until improvements are made, I can’t recommend the Inn at Thorn Hill.

The rooms have an old-fashioned look, but ours was cared for and had everything working except the TV, which had connection problems. The fridge was a good size and quality, the toiletries were nice, and we had both a shower and a hot tub, plus a gas fireplace. The bed was comfortable, though a little small for me. I also liked the grounds and the scenic views from the terrace, where there were plenty of chairs. Staff were welcoming and check-in was easy. There’s a bar, restaurant and guest reception room with a pub-like feel. Breakfast comes with the stay and has about five choices. The eggs Benedict and pancakes with maple syrup were fine, nothing special, but having options was a nice touch for a small American hotel. Good value, and I’d recommend it for a night or two.

We had dinner and breakfast at the Inn, and both were fantastic. Everything was cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. The restaurant alone made this feel like a special place to stay. The room had a beautiful view, and the hot tub and shower were clean and pleasant. The staff were wonderful from check-in through dining. Great location too. Definitely worth visiting.

Breakfast was delicious, and the staff there were welcoming and professional. The property itself is clean and beautiful. My experience at the front desk, though, left me feeling uneasy. I arrived around 9:40 pm on 11.29.25 with a sleepy toddler on one arm and a cart full of bags in the other. I’d driven from the mountain grand view resort and hoped for a warm welcome, but the front desk employee didn’t offer help and made me feel unwelcome. She didn’t have to help, but that was still disappointing. I also had to ask for my room key the next day because it wasn’t given to me at check-in. I was in Room 208 (Monroe), where a loud mechanical noise came from the floor. I reported that the next day. I wouldn’t recommend this for families with children under 18. The front desk told me they would have turned me away because the place is for adults. If the website had said that, I would have booked somewhere else.
