Motel 6 Jacksonville, NC

This was my second stay, and this time I had a king bed. It was a good experience, with everything satisfactory for a short visit. The pool looked nice, but both times I came it was cold and rainy, so I didn’t use it. I’d recommend staying here.

We had to wait about 30 minutes for someone to bring our key after arriving to find the lobby closed and calling Motel 6 to make a reservation. We’d booked a single king smoking room, but were told none were available. The only option was a more expensive double smoking room. It was late, and this location doesn’t charge a pet deposit, so we stayed rather than going elsewhere. The rooms were very clean and the AC worked great. They gave us free toiletries and a razor at check-in. But the $100 refundable deposit is worth knowing about: card deposits take 3-5 days to come back, while cash is returned after inspection if you bring the receipt to the desk. Loud neighbors next door and downstairs on the first floor made it hard to get comfortable after a long trip. There seemed to be a lot of displaced people walking around at midnight, so lock your doors and keep your hunting gear with you. If you can, maybe look for another option in the city center.

The rooms weren’t bad and didn’t smell. Housekeeping is free, and the pool was clean.

There are definitely roaches, and the smoking rooms don’t get cleaned. Brown smears were on the bathroom walls and elsewhere. The owner seems to look for any excuse to keep the deposit, which I can confirm from my own experience, like the previous reviewer said. The bed was so old it might be older than our president, basically just springs. Still, it didn’t poison or kill me, and I could afford the long stay without selling a kidney. Pet friendly :)
