The staff were so polite, always greeting us when they passed, and the beds were nicely made. We had plenty of supplies and clean towels. The room itself was awful, though. The carpet was damp and the AC felt more like a humidifier, leaving me sticky and feeling wet. We were on the second floor, and the view from the window was a gross roof. I wish I’d believed the bad reviews. You can tell this used to be a nice place, but the owners seem to have stopped caring. Too bad, because the location is great.

For the price and location, we thought it was a decent deal, even though it wasn’t perfect. There were insects and mold on the shower curtain, so management needs to deal with the bathrooms. The rest of our room was clean, and we didn’t find bugs under the mattress or box spring. Some doors need replacing and the place is a little rough around the edges, but our group found the staff helpful and generous. The lobby was beautiful, and the bar area and its staff were stunning. The negative reviews here exaggerate how bad the hotel is.

We ended up trying three rooms before giving up on finding clean sheets. The first had no AC and blood on the sheets. In room two, there were pube hairs and a booger in the bed, plus a fresh semen stain on the bed skirt. We have pictures. Room three had a spider and mold stains. The front desk girl was sweet, but completely clueless, and the rest of the staff rarely spoke or seemed interested in guests. The lobby looks nice until the elevator opens to a place like a Motel 6, which I’d expect to be cleaner. The so-called vending machine area was full of an old sink, old chairs, and other trash, but no vending machine. Carpets were dirty, walls and ceilings were falling apart, and room service trays sat in the halls for hours where people could trip over them. The whole place felt like a creepy, dirty, run-down psych ward. DON’T DO IT. TRUST ME.

We had roaches and bad smells in the rooms, and none of the three rooms we tried after the first left much to be desired. Check that your door actually locks. I found out ours didn’t at 2:00 am when someone walked in. Jasmine at the front desk was the rudest person I’ve met during any hotel stay. She was too busy explaining what wasn’t the hotel’s fault to hear what was, and showed no regard for the customer. If they want repeat stays, they should train staff not to be rude. The quality and service are like a Motel 6, so if that works for you, go to a real Motel 6 and save money.

I’m from Jacksonville and remember when this hotel was top notch. It’s gone downhill, but I picked it for $45 a night on Priceline and for the location, close to downtown, San Marco, and Riverside across the bridge. I stayed from Friday 3/7 to Wednesday 3/12/2014. If you need a cheap downtown hotel, this one is an option. If you can pay more for somewhere better, the Hampton Inn down the street is quite nice. The staff were nice, and the location really is good, but I don’t know why the owners or management won’t do more to upgrade the place. My room wasn’t that bad, and the sheets and bathroom were clean. It had a faint mildew smell, which I’d seen mentioned in reviews. I was too tired to change rooms, so I asked housekeeping to clean and spray air freshener. That was fine, but I also asked the front desk to have them clean the coffee pot because it was dirty. They never came. I didn’t want to drink the coffee. The internet was awful, very slow, and took ages to connect. I did get online most of the time. I ordered room service pizza once. It looked good, but water on the plate under a slice ruined my appetite. I also went down for breakfast one morning. The front desk was supposed to give out a breakfast coupon at check-in, but since I booked through Priceline I didn’t get one and had to pay $10. I’d waited so long for grits that they let me have what I’d eaten for free, which was nice, though I was still hungry. Parking is valet only and costs $12, but it isn’t available around the clock. If you need the car while valet is closed, you can ask them to leave your keys at the desk. One day I used the side entrance on Prudential Dr and parked, and the car was fine. The next day I had an early flight and didn’t want to risk it not being there, so I paid for valet. The hotel isn’t that bad. I’ve stayed in worse.
