Even from the sidewalk, you can tell the Royal Carriage Inn has a lot of history behind it. Its two-story front, old balconies, and little architectural touches give it that 1800s Gold Country feel, and it sits naturally among the old saloons, hotels, and shops on Jamestown’s Main Street. I didn’t stay there, but it’s a lovely piece of the town’s past and a real standout.

I was warned about this place by local law enforcement and should’ve listened. The lobby had cats, a pungent smell, and didn’t look clean. My room was dirty too, with boogers on the wall and a mattress with broken springs that could snag clothes or break skin. The younger employee seemed clueless. When I called, the older woman talked over me rudely and wouldn’t let me explain my concern. I’d rather sleep in my car.

The managers were really friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable, with a queen bed and a good heater. It was large and a great price. I stayed six nights and used the place as a base for exploring Yosemite. I’ll be back 😊

The room itself was decent, but I was charged $50 two days after my stay, with no notice before or after the charge. When I contacted the company, they said it was for a towel they claimed was missing and stained sheets. I didn’t take a towel or stain the sheets. Even if those claims were true, $50 for one towel and a fitted sheet is absurd. The delay and lack of communication about the alleged damage made the whole thing especially frustrating. I won’t stay there again.

The cottages are clean and quiet, and they have everything I might need: a kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher, plus plates, silverware, pots, and pans. I fell in love with the place and will definitely come back. The antique shops are just a block away, which I love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
