Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Janesville

The room itself was clean, though nothing special, and I had no major issue with it except that there was no coffee maker. The reason for the one star is that I found two charges for the room on my credit card statement. I’d reserved by phone and was told the card wouldn’t actually be charged until we checked in, but it was charged then as well. The first charge shows as Expedia, even though I didn’t call them or book through them. When I tried to get it sorted out, I was told it defaults to Expedia. The same thing happened to me at a Wyndam managed hotel in another city a couple of years ago. I guess this is Wyndam’s normal policy, double charging guests and hoping they don’t look closely at their bill. I wouldn’t stay at a Wyndam managed hotel again even if they said it was free. I won’t patronize a place that has a policy of stealing from customers.

The rooms were affordable, clean, and quiet, and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast, though, was dismal. If you drink coffee, be aware they were completely out by 8:30 in the morning. They’d also run out of whatever had been in the pan in my photos.

The hotel is very well maintained, and the front desk staff truly deserve five stars. Everyone was professional and willing to go above and beyond to help guests. We had no problems and would recommend staying here.

I come to Janesville every year for a three-day convention, and this was my first time staying here. It was quiet, I felt safe as a woman traveling alone, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bathroom was sparkling clean, and this is the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The beds are high quality and really comfortable. There’s no closet, but there are wall hooks for clothes, which worked for me since I packed light. I was glad to find a small fridge and microwave in the room. Breakfast was nicely set up, and I liked being able to use the coffee machine in the evening. The coffee was good, too. I’d call it a minimalist hotel: it may not have every extra, but it’s a very nice place with everything I needed. I’d recommend it and will stay here again for next year’s convention.
