Econo Lodge

I was exhausted after driving 15 hours and was trying to stick to a budget, but this was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, especially the customer service. The room cost around $85, yet they took a $130 deposit, nearly double the room price. I was told it would be back on my card in three or four days, but after a week I had to call. He said it had slipped his mind, which I doubt. I honestly said there were three of us, then was surprised by an extra charge for the third person. He acted as if I’d lied when booking, which I hadn’t. He said checkout was 10:30 a.m., or 11 if I paid a fee. I’ve never heard of a 10:30 checkout; plenty of hotels allow checkout at noon or 1 p.m. before charging for extra time. It felt like he was trying to squeeze every penny from me, a woman traveling alone. The breakfast area was full of boxes and junk and looked dirty and unprofessional, and there was no continental breakfast. The rooms were trashy, and the location didn’t have good restaurant options. When I asked if it was safe, he laughed and joked that we should lock the doors. I’ve stayed at Econo Lodges elsewhere without this kind of experience. He’s bad for the brand, and seemed more concerned with getting money from tired guests than making them happy enough to return or recommend the place. I don’t know how this is allowed under the EconoLodge name.

No grills, but everything in the room worked. It was clean and comfortable, and the heater kept us warm on a cold night. The shower got hot and had good pressure.

The bed and pillows were really comfortable, and the inn keeper was so kind and amazing. The hotel could use some upgrades, but for the price it was very nice. The inn keeper was also very attractive.

I only stayed because I was tired of driving in the rain. I needed a place that allowed dogs and had outside access. The room was clean, but very run down, and I felt I paid far too much for what I got. It looked like renovations might be underway, but I was disappointed with the facility. The owner/manager wasn’t there when I arrived, and I waited about ten minutes for someone to come help at the desk. They gave me a room key, then I had to return to the office to pay once the owner came back.
