Holiday Inn Johnstown Downtown by IHG

The hotel falsely claimed renovations to avoid providing the guaranteed availability that comes with IHG's Diamond Elite rewards level. I stay here 70 nights a year, and if they treat a customer like me this way, how do you think they’ll treat you? Find somewhere else to stay.

The hotel is in a great spot for anyone going to the 1st summit arena. It’s definitely dated, but my room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, the pool and workout rooms were closed for renovations.

The hotel’s main draw for me is its spot on Market Street, right in the heart of Johnstown’s business district. It’s easy to get to downtown restaurants, historic sites, and the Pennsylvania hills from there. The lobby is welcoming, check-in was smooth, and the atmosphere was quietly warm. Staff were courteous and helpful, with a practical, professional approach that made for dependable service. The rooms were clean and well maintained, with comfortable beds, enough window light, and the basic comforts you’d expect. It’s a straightforward place to rest without fuss, with indoor access and easy parking. The hotel also makes a handy base for exploring Johnstown’s history. Less than a mile away are reminders of the catastrophic flood of 1889, when the South Fork Dam collapsed, sending a wall of water through the city and killing more than 2,200 people. Downtown, you can feel how the town has been tested and rebuilt, and that history gives a visit a solemn weight. The hotel becomes a place to return to after taking in those stories of survival and community strength. It isn’t a luxury resort, but it offers consistent, no-frills comfort and convenient access to downtown restaurants and historic places. If someone mentions a “flood tax,” that’s apparently Johnstown’s way of reminding you that the only thing you’ll swim in tonight is clean sheets. Holiday Inn Johnstown-Downtown is a dependable choice for business travelers, families, or anyone curious about the city’s resilience. Comfortable rooms, solid service, and an easy walk to downtown make it a reliable place to stay.

The attached restaurant was a big plus, with great service and food. Staff were friendly and accommodating. My room was clean and well kept, though the hotel was being remodeled during my stay.
