Fairfield Inn Joliet South

I don’t quite understand the one-star reviews. Maybe there was construction or a management change when those guests visited? It’s not fancy, but it’s definitely not bad. The lobby smelled clean, and breakfast was fully stocked, with hot items, a waffle maker, oatmeal, and more. The lack of gym access is a big letdown, though. I’d assumed every Fairfield had a gym.

I’ve never had such a bad experience at a Marriott property. The walls are so thin that we could hear kids and parents screaming in the adjoining room for hours. I was moved three times, which is unbelievable. First they put me a floor below the loud family and said there were no other rooms, which was a lie. When the night desk employee arrived, he apologized and moved me to the other side of the hotel. Staff told the family to be quiet, but they kept screaming at each other. My room was clean, but the noise from that family was awful. I don’t recommend staying here. One night was enough.

I’ve stayed at lots of Fairfields and they’re usually pretty good for the price. I have Marriott titanium status and normally spend over 100 nights a year traveling for work, so this wasn’t my first Fairfield. This one was horrible. The staff were grumpy and unwelcoming when I walked in. The carpets smelled so bad, in the lobby, elevator, and even the rooms, some of the stinkiest I’ve encountered in any hotel. Turning on the bathroom water to shower or wash my hands brought a strong sewer smell. The toilet kept flushing itself every five minutes, and there’s no gym. What? Never staying here again. Do yourself a favor, save your money, and go somewhere else.

The hotel was good otherwise, but we only found out after checking in that parking costs $10. For what? It was just a regular parking lot, so I wouldn’t give it all five stars.
