Open Gate Hostel Hawaii

The hostel’s open feel, murals, and outdoor spaces made it one of our favorite stops on the trip. Marissa was a fantastic host and shared loads of helpful tips about the area and volcano. We’d love to come back.

I needed some space from my usual routine, and Open Gate Hostel was just the quiet reset I was after. There was no light or noise pollution, and the remote setting made it easy to unwind and recharge. The surrounding part of the island is beautiful, and the hostel has a character all its own. Marissa was warm, kind, and knew the area well. She gave me plenty of good ideas for local events and places to explore. I had an amazing stay and can’t wait to make another trip back, hopefully soon.

The lava ground looks stunning, and the hostel had a calm atmosphere where we enjoyed breakfast and good conversations. Everyone was so friendly and helped us with everything. It’s not a five-star hotel, of course, but we didn’t expect that. We came for the Hawaiian experience and weren’t disappointed.

Breakfast, coffee, and towels were all provided for free, and the hostel was clean with a great vibe. It’s out on the lava fields, away from the tourist hotspots, and Marissa had excellent suggestions for local places to check out. I’d happily recommend it to any traveler.
