The Henderson Castle

We stayed two nights in a row, and it was a great time. Everything was clean and well looked after, the food was amazing, and the service was second to none. The staff didn’t miss a detail. There’s plenty of fun stuff to see, especially if you’re into ghosts and the paranormal. Don’t skip the rooftop hot tub or those great views of Kalamazoo. I can’t recommend Henderson Castle enough.

We spent one night in the French Room. The house is beautiful, decorated to suit its period, and the service was top-notch. The staff’s period dress was a lovely touch. The bar was fast and had an excellent selection. Dinner was worth the price: tableside Drunken Lobster and roasted bone marrow with a nice Red. I’d recommend staying a night or two, as long as you have dinner there. My only less-than-five-star point is that the setting in Kalamazoo doesn’t quite fit the house, though that can’t be changed. If you want a complimentary outing, go over to the Gilmore Car Museum.

The castle is really cool, and we had a great time. The staff went out of their way to help us choose rooms that suited us and found space for facials even though we’d first been told they were fully booked. We didn’t see any paranormal activity, so I guess we’ll have to come back!

The only issue I had was the freshness of the complimentary breakfast food. There was a slight problem with its quality. Otherwise, my first overnight stay at the castle was phenomenal. We had dinner reservations and a couple’s massage, and the staff went above and beyond. The mother-son pair of masseuses were calm and comforting, and made the experience especially memorable. I’d recommend it to any Kalamazoo local at least once.
