Never staying here again, and I wouldn’t recommend it. Breakfast was horrible and tasted like cardboard. The rooms were poor quality, with cracks in the walls and ceiling, paper-thin walls, and an outlet unusable because a piece of metal was stuck in it. I could hear everything happening in the neighboring room. There seemed to be a lot of vagrants coming and going, and lots of rubber gloves were lying in the parking lot.
Stay away from Holiday Inn and Suites, more like a run-down motel 6. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kansas City Sport Complex Area By IHG at 8551 East Blue Parkway, Kansas City, MO, 64133 is a total joke. We had no hot water in the shower in room 216, only at the bathroom sink, and the remote control cover was missing. The desk person seemed to be wearing too many hats with nobody to help him, though he did go out of his way to move us to room 223, which had hot water in the shower. That room was also dirty, the remote cover was missing there too, and the tub had a stain on the bottom. I posted pictures of both bathrooms, rooms 216 and 223. Both rooms were dirty, with stains on the carpet, walls, and doors. In room 216, there was pink mildew at the bottom of the tub and around it. The tub in 223 was disgusting too. We’re not the only ones complaining about this Holiday Inn and Suites. They said they’d hold $100 for incidentals, though at the other Holiday Inn and Suites in Colby Kansas they never asked us for a deposit and said it would be returned at checkout. We plan to dispute the charge with American Express after we check out tomorrow. If Holiday Inn owns this hotel, they’ll hear from us. It’s ridiculous to have it open when it should be shut down. Shame on you, Holiday Inn. I do not recommend it.
We didn’t feel safe or comfortable, so we left for another hotel, and got no refund. This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. The room was unacceptable, with hair on the bedding and what appeared to be bed bugs. The property was filthy, from the dirty walls and floors to heavily stained carpets. The hallways smelled strongly of marijuana despite no-smoking signs throughout the building, and we saw rats in the parking lot. Some people in the lobby appeared to be strung out on drugs, which made the place feel unsafe. The property has serious problems with cleanliness, safety, and management. I’d strongly discourage anyone from staying here.
We only stayed because it was near the funeral service we were attending. Service was okay, but this was the worst Holiday Inn I’ve stayed in. Our basement room had a foul odor, a cracked tub that drained very slowly, and broken soap dispensers. At breakfast there was hardly any food and the juice dispenser didn’t work. Breakfast was supposed to run from 7 to 10 a.m., but the woman started cleaning up at 9:15. We weren’t allowed to take food to our room or outside the dining area, even though the website said the breakfast buffet was to go only. As we left to get dinner, there was dog poop by the front door.
Raj at the front desk deserves a special mention. He was courteous and walked me through the procedure in detail. I’d read the reviews before booking and wasn’t expecting much, but the stay was decent from check-in through checkout. My room was spacious and clean, with plenty of bathroom supplies and toiletries. Breakfast was simple and good, and the bacon was the best part. I’d book here again if I’m in the area.
