Southern Cross Ranch

The horses were gentle, clearly cared for, and lovely to spend time with. We went for one ride, and the barn staff let us take part at whatever level felt comfortable, which made it a great experience. We were visiting for a wedding and had such a relaxing stay at Southern Cross Ranch. The grounds were beautiful, the staff warm and helpful, and you can feel how much care goes into the place. I’d love to return with my family. It’s a great spot to unwind and be around nature.

I loved getting to ride the same horse over several days and learn how to tack and untack. You’re given a lot of independence, and you pick things up quickly. I was new to riding, but Max Nicki Amy and Alicia were wonderful guides and helped me feel at ease even riding at speed. The horses are healthy and obviously loved, and guests spoil them when they aren’t working. Wandering the pasture and petting everyone was magical. The cats were especially affectionate and wanted all the attention, which made this cat person melt nonstop. The dogs, cats, and horses were all adorable, and the food was delicious. Everyone, staff and guests alike, was kind and welcoming. I’ll definitely be back!

The riding at Southern Cross Ranch was fantastic. They pair you with a horse based on your experience and give you a guide. Afterward, you can explore the property unguided if you have a partner. You’re welcome to trot or canter, or take it slowly, depending on what you’re comfortable with. The ranch was a great place to finally relax during our road trip. My husband and I stayed over the Xmas holiday, and the friendly staff, clean rooms, pristine sheets, and luxurious shampoo, conditioner, and soaps all helped. You can tell the staff and owners put care into the place. The food was tasty, buffet style, and had lots of options. Drinks like soda, iced tea, Gatorade, coffee, tea, and water are available free around the clock, with snacks between meals too. We’ll definitely return. One tip: bring apples and treats for the horses, since the ranch doesn’t sell them.

The riding was fun, and there are plenty of horses for different experience levels. I’m not very experienced, but they made sure I felt comfortable and helped when I needed it. I got to ride Zipper! We stayed two nights and booked a two-hour ride, rather than the All Inclusive option, and had a great time. The breakfast was just okay, nothing special compared with many hotels and B&Bs, but breakfast wasn’t why we came. We wanted the atmosphere and experience. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and I highly recommend Southern Cross Ranch. Bring peppermints, apples, and carrots for the horses. The website doesn’t mention treats, but we also had to go out and buy some for the dogs and cats there.
