Update, January 19, 2023: I spent a couple of weeks here over Thanksgiving, and things seem to be getting better. My room was clean and everything worked. When the microwave started acting up, the staff brought me a brand-new replacement within minutes of my letting them know. The general tidying up has helped the Suites too. Keep it up! I don’t usually write negative reviews, but when I do, something has really pushed me to speak up. This is a nice property that hasn’t been properly looked after. Other reviewers mentioned cleanliness, and I saw it myself. Unless a room has had a couple of days of make-ready work, it may not look like the photos. On the encouraging side, I’d been there three days without an uninvited bug. The rates were among the lowest in town, but guests should still get a clean room and enough towels. It took almost 48 hours to get fresh towels, though they were very clean and new when they arrived. The place feels like a diamond in the rough worth some attention. A dozen or so rooms seem out of use over minor maintenance issues. I know this hotel has hosted magical moments, summer vacations, and family trips to Worlds of Fun. Clean it up and people will come again. You could charge $89 for an off-season room.
My fiancée, daughter, and I stayed for a week while our house was being finished. Check-in was very easy, and the showers were fantastic, but cleanliness was a real problem. There was a bad smell that I couldn’t get rid of, even after trying candles, Fabulouso, and scrubbing everything myself. Since my daughter was sleeping on an air mattress, I wanted to sweep and mop the hotel floors. The mop just pushed gray sludge around, so I had to get a scrub brush. The amount of filth I scrubbed off the floor is going to haunt me for a long time. They need better cleaning services.
The only person who helped with maintenance and other problems was a part-time employee, a woman who works at a different location and only comes to the Worlds of Fun location for a couple of hours each week. She was a blessing. She improvised a fix for my AC and cleaned up the dog poop outside my room when the other employees wouldn’t do anything. I had asked two other staff members, three in total including the woman who finally helped, to deal with the dog poop. I don’t have pets. I also asked about the leaking AC, which dumped a lot of water on my floor and got rapidly worse while the other employees ignored it. The place is unsanitary and disgusting. The elevator smells like urine, and its floor always has mystery liquid and grime. There’s only one elevator, and there are roaches in all the rooms. They periodically spray for roaches while guests are staying there, exposing them to harmful chemicals, yet the infestation continues. Dog poop is scattered across the outdoor walkways by rooms on all three levels. By room 321, exposed wires were on the outside wall, with a socket literally hanging out. The grounds are covered with litter despite daily employees picking up maybe two pieces of trash. There’s no way this place meets code. The counters are badly damaged, the stove burners in my room’s kitchen are covered in rust, and both the shower and kitchen sink drip constantly. The units are neglected and outdated. While I was there, people said none of the washers worked, and laundry was really expensive, with a higher charge for a heavy load than a medium one. I can’t recommend this motel because of how unsanitary, run-down, neglected, dysfunctional, and outdated it is.
I booked through a third party and learned to research places myself. Part of the problem was waiting too long to reserve a room for the weekend of a Taylor swift concert, when every hotel in the city was full. The building looks mismanaged and uncared for. It needs a power wash and paint, the stairwell rails are broken, and the elevator wasn’t working. There were so many bugs in the room that I was worried about sleeping there.
NOBODY showed compassion or integrity. They chose to do absolutely NOTHING. If you want a quality place to stay, look elsewhere. The management is poor, and the place feels low-vibrational and without compassion or integrity! We came in from the cold and rain with my family, only to find blood all over the room. At 9:39 pm I asked for clean linen. I dozed off, woke up sometime after 11, and nobody had come. The linen and towels had blood and hair on them, so I called down. Michelle said, “I just called you,” even though there was NO phone in the room, then chuckled. When she and Sarah finally came to change the linen and towels, it was close to 1 in the morning, and my son had to be at work in a couple of hours. The cleaner they used while my son sat and watched at 1 a.m. set off my anxiety.
