The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center

We came in for an overnight to see Hamilton, and the hotel made a great impression on my two teenage girls. We got there early, around 1:00 PM, hoping to have lunch and explore, and our room was already ready. It was spacious, with comfortable beds, and being able to walk straight into Crown Center Mall from inside was very cool. We didn’t use the restaurant or pool since we had other plans that evening. The parking garage setup was a little confusing, but it worked out fine. The KC Streetcar stop is just a couple minutes away on foot, and we took it to dinner in the Power & Light district. I’ll absolutely book here again for another KC outing.

We chose The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center for one night on our US road trip, and it worked out really well. After the long drive, the large, cozy bed gave us a good rest. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was clean and functional, though the bathtub is shallow for a proper soak. There’s a well-equipped gym with a good range of cardio machines and weights, plenty of space, and no wait for equipment when we were there. The gym floor also connects to an outdoor heated pool, with a small indoor soak pool as another nice extra. The lobby is spacious and inviting, and the reception team was friendly and professional. Check-in was quick and smooth. We also found valet parking handy on a road trip. A souvenir shop in the lobby sells drinks and snacks as well as souvenirs, useful for grabbing something quickly. The hotel connects right to a small mall, with restaurants and shops for meals or casual browsing without going far. We had a very pleasant stay and would choose this hotel again if we return to Kansas City.

The staff were excellent and answered my questions, making sure I was happy before moving on. Being connected to the mall was convenient, and the lobby was very nice. I also loved the mezzanine with its waterfall and Christmas tree. The rooms were clean and housekeeping did a great job, but the rooms themselves were standard and felt more like three-star than the five-star experience I expect from a Westin. I was disappointed that the coffee shop closed around 1pm, so getting Starbucks meant walking into the mall. The restaurant also fell short for a Westin: it was tiny, the menu was very limited, and the food was disappointing. Room service was horrific. They brought the food in takeout containers inside a brown paper bag, and a “pot” of coffee came in a cardboard container like one from Dunkin. The omelette and potatoes were not good at all.

The customer service at the front desk and restaurant was great, and I loved the gym. The kitchen was the problem. I stayed for two weeks, and during the first week they charged my card for the whole stay instead of the company card. The breakfast was $25, but the eggs Benedict, potatoes, and sausage were burnt to a crisp. The eggs were boiled all the way through instead of poached. Dinner’s fish tacos cost $30, yet the shells were hard and chewy and there was barely any fish. I asked for soup without dairy and, sure enough, it had dairy in it.
