Sean made my stay at WoodSpring Suites in Kansas City much better than I'd expected. From the warm welcome when I arrived to his professional, genuinely helpful manner, he set a great tone. He was attentive and proactive with questions and accommodations, and checked that guests were comfortable. He made everything seem easy, and his positive attitude and efficiency really lifted the atmosphere. WoodSpring Suites Kansas City is lucky to have him. If every hotel had a “Sean,” travel would be a lot more enjoyable. Highly recommend staying here, and I hope you get greeted by him.
The staff were exceptionally friendly, the one-switch-all-off setup was handy, and the bathroom light came on automatically and had automatic closing hinges. That light may disappoint anyone getting up at midnight. IT support was great with devices that wouldn't cooperate with name/room number authentication, and there were plenty of eating options, probably a KC staple. We managed a successful visit despite a few annoyances. The facility seems relatively new and well maintained, but it's nearly 10 miles from the airport, so I wouldn't call it airport adjacent. During our weekend stay, I noticed there were no push-button automatic doors at any of the three entry and exit sets. I understand the security concern, but I've seen places with a push-button on one side and switches inside and out. I wonder how this passed code inspection. Our room had continuous covered commercial grade vinyl flooring, which makes dust and cleanup easier, but one of the two queen beds squeaked whenever anyone moved. That could have bothered guests below us, though we managed. Dusting the bathroom exhaust fan showed that cleaning doesn't start at the top and work downward. I didn't check the higher horizontal surfaces in the open closet or kitchen. The kitchenette requires you to bring your own utensils, cookware, cleaning supplies, and ingredients. I hadn't connected the kitchenette with extended-stay differences like fewer staff and less frequent cleaning, sometimes only once a week. I wonder why someone would pay over 130$ a night for a 360-day work trip, though location, location, location might be the reason, as it was for us.
I was concerned after reading the negative reviews, but this is a nice hotel. It's very clean and comfortable, and the bed was perfectly fine. There's a fridge, stovetop, microwave, TV, Wi-Fi, office space, a separate sitting area, and a really large bathroom. It's nicer than some places I've stayed.
The front desk staff were nice, but that was the only good part. The beds were really uncomfortable, and the whole building smelled like pot. People were smoking outside, too. The walls are so thin you can hear everything from other rooms, every footstep, door closing, and conversation. My husband was staying there for work. Worst place to stay.
The room was clean, and I got the hot shower I wanted. I had searched quickly for a pet friendly place to stop with my dog during a road trip, and this hotel had a room available. The woman at the front desk was kind and put us near an exit, which was handy for the dog. I'd book here again if another road trip takes me this way.
