Sunnyside Motel

Steve was easy to reach and made check-in really simple. The room had a comfortable bed, fridge, microwave, and TV, and everything was clean and neat. The new owner is making the place so nice for Kaplan and has upgraded everything. I’ll book again for Thanksgiving!

We paid almost sixty a night and just wanted a clean, cool, comfortable place to stay. Instead, the room was filthy, looked like it was from the seventies, and had an old tube TV with no cable and a remote that didn’t work. There are no phones in the rooms, and we were left without clean towels when we came back around seven in the evening. The woman in the office had to wash towels then for us and the other person staying there. The owner is an older Iranian man, and the couple running the hotel, which has just three rentable rooms, also live on the premises. We had nowhere else to stay while I was trying to get into a mobile home I’d bought in another town, but I won’t stay here again. I’ll post photos of the room and what she considers clean. Just wow, don’t stay here. The old AC barely cooled the room at all on our first day. We went to the office three separate times, and the woman told us to stop going in and out of our room. She checked the AC, then argued that it was cooling even though we were sitting on the bed sweating. On the morning of our second day, we overslept, and she came into the room without knocking or announcing herself and asked what we were doing. When I answered, she was very rude because we’d overslept. At about nine the next morning, after we paid, she told my fiancé that if we hadn’t paid before eleven, she wouldn’t let us stay again. She seemed to blame us for asking for air conditioning and sleeping late, though I think it’s the office’s job to knock and tell guests when checkout is. I’m not sure what planet she’s from. It’s a joke. We felt treated like trash.

We were on a motorcycle and there was nowhere else available in town, so we stayed, but this was a total nightmare. It didn’t feel safe to drive in the dark or sleep on the ground, so we slept fully dressed and used a backpack to keep our heads off anything. We didn’t sleep in the bed. The place was filthy, with holes in the TV and walls, stains on the mattress, pillows, and sheets, and tiny flies everywhere. There was no running water from the sink faucets. The manager refused to refund anything. It was worse than any slum you could imagine. I took pictures but can’t post them here. The photos are a complete lie. I actually called the Department of Health.

The lady at the desk and the housekeeper were both great, and the motel was quiet. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Sure, it’s not a Holiday Inn, but I’d recommend this motel to anyone.
