Red Roof Inn Tucson Downtown – University

The staff were kind and wonderful, and breakfast was great. The coffee was very good for a complimentary continental breakfast, too. Our suite was spacious, with a separate sitting area and a comfortable sofa for watching TV. It’s also close to everything.

I had to stay an extra night because everything downtown was sold out, but I found another hotel the following day and returned that afternoon to collect my bag before an early checkout. There was another person I took to be drug addicted lying on the stairs. Thankfully, my colleague was with me then. The morning after I first arrived, I’d seen someone I took to be homeless and drug addicted lying on the stairs as I left the hotel. I was in Tucson for business, and although the rooms looked alright on Maps, that didn’t match what I experienced. My room itself was alright, though the bathroom window ledge hadn’t been cleaned and one bed sheet had a stain. I also woke during the night to noise from the neighboring rooms and people smoking and talking on the balcony. I arrived just after midnight, and by the next day I wanted to leave because I felt very unsafe staying three more days. I’ve traveled across North and Latin America, East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, and these two nights at RRI were probably the most frightening hotel stay of my life. I wouldn’t recommend it because the area felt dodgy and unsafe, especially for women traveling alone.

I felt safe during my stay and had no issues. For the price, this is a great room bargain, conveniently located near downtown and the college. If someone expects a five-star experience, they should book a five-star hotel instead of leaving low reviews because this place doesn’t meet that expectation.

The rooms were nice and clean, and check-in was friendly. The pool looked really nice, too. But we didn’t feel safe because of the criminal activity around the property. During our short stay, there were drugs, prostitution, and homeless people around. I really hope they hire security to keep an eye on the place.
