The legacy staff hired by Bev and Rick were the one saving grace. They were still wonderful and went the extra mile. I had been to Captain Lord more than ten times since the early 2000s, for over 15 nights in total, and adored it when Bev and Rick owned it. I returned recently for the first time since 2020, and it just isn't the same. The personal touches, atmosphere, and charm have been sucked away by the Lark. Reception used to be a welcoming spot with news and information. Now it's a hodgepodge open workspace with shop wares, and the poor women working there sit at tiny micro desks that look ridiculous and out of place. The effort to cut operating costs shows throughout: limited coffee selection, fewer shared areas like the parlor, and the postcards showcasing each room are gone. The downstairs gift shop is now a closet. Breakfast, once a hallmark, is now continental. Details that made this a world-class B&B have been reduced to a mere “hotel.” Rooms that used to have ship names are numbered, and the decor feels like it was chosen by a Manhattan wannabe decorator. Bathrooms that were once unique now feel like a Marriott.

Our first time in Kennebunkport, Maine, and we loved the hotel. It was very clean, the staff were awesome, and the location was great. The room was cool, and the bed was about six feet high. You'll need a stool to climb into it.

Just a short walk from the main drag in Kennebunkport/Kennebunk, Nathaniel Lord House by the Captain's collection is a magical place to stay. Our room was cozy and had lots of amenities. Take a look around the neighboring collection buildings too, they have more beautiful shared spaces. I'm looking forward to staying at another Lark property in Portland. 😀

The staff were delightful, friendly, and helpful, and made the stay even more fun. We had a lovely, very clean room with a comfortable bed and a modern, spacious bathroom. Breakfast was delicious each morning, and the location was great. Highly recommend!

It's easy to walk to the port from this well-located place. The staff are kind and accommodating, and their technology kept us informed and connected.
