The Lodge at the Cove

The kids, 4 and 6, loved it, and this was a good fit for the phase of life we’re in. It’s a cute, campy place that’s very kid friendly and family oriented, with a quick drive to town and the beaches. The pool, craft area, s’mores, and movie nights are all really cute. The rooms were comfortable enough, but humid and buggy because there aren’t screens on the doors or windows. Our shower was completely clogged, and maintenance didn’t fix it even though we asked every day.

We stopped for one night on the way to Acadia National Park. The room was clean and a decent size, with a fridge, microwave, and coffee machine. The bathroom had two sets of body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. The blanket was thin, as other guests have mentioned, but the night wasn’t too cold. We actually turned on the A/C, which was a bit noisy. Breakfast was very basic, with bagels, cereal, yogurt, and fruit. I wish they’d had something hot, like oatmeal or boiled eggs. On the plus side, there are two fire pits by the pool where you can make your own s’mores, which is great for families. They also lend out bikes for riding downtown.

We booked a single night, with the listing showing a total of around $300. At check-in, they sprang a $100 pet fee on me and said the other charges were temporary and would be removed after checkout. But when I checked my bank statement, the one-night total was over $500. They’d added more than $200 in questionable taxes and fees, listed as a “Destination Fee, Resort Fee, Community Impact Fee,” and three separate lodging taxes. Do not recommend!

The staff were all friendly, and the kids had a great time with the pool, nighttime s’mores, candy bar, games, and DVD library for a movie night. The popcorn in the room was a nice surprise, too. We had a great stay and will definitely be back. The room was nice overall, though the bathroom was a bit tired and the AC didn’t work very well. Having the little outdoor deck was great for enjoying a drink while the kids watched their movie. It’s a quick walk to the center of town.
