La Pensione Inn

The air-conditioner was so loud it felt like sleeping beside an airport, and the foyer had a stale old-Victorian smell. The king bed was lumpy and left my back hurting. It sat right beside the toilet, so there was no privacy. The bathroom was tiny with nowhere to put anything. Getting to the room meant climbing 19 steps, then juggling two keys and a pass card to get in and out. Even the small 16'x25' pool area was locked, requiring one of those keys. This “refurbished Victorian” was a dump, and I have nothing good to say about LaPencion. Avoid it.

We’d come back. The street can be noisy, so light sleepers may have some trouble, but the staff were great. Samona helped us book tours and suggested things to do around the city. A great option in key west.

The inn’s historic character comes from its restored 19th-century Victorian mansion, and modern conveniences include air conditioning, microwaves, refrigerators, and satellite TVs. It’s an adult-only place in Old Town Key West, with an outdoor pool, daily housekeeping, friendly attentive staff, concierge service, and free parking. Breakfast is continental/buffet style, and Duval Street and the Ernest Hemingway Home are only a few minutes away on foot. It makes a peaceful, central base with plenty of charm and comfort.

We got there long before check-in, but the front desk kindly let us use the amenities while we waited. They even let us into our room as soon as housekeeping had finished. The staff were professional, helpful, and warm throughout. Breakfast was free, with hot food served hot and cold items kept cold, which we appreciated. The room was clean and comfortable, and the whole property was well cared for. It’s conveniently placed, just minutes from anything we needed outside the hotel, including Duval Street. We’re grateful to the staff for such a good stay.
