Margaritaville Beach House Key West Hotel

The shuttle drivers, waiters, and bartenders were fabulous and friendly, and housekeeping was helpful. A front desk man who checked us out was also informative and answered our questions well. On my earlier stay, when a third party had messed up our reservation, the manager was amazing. I liked the location too, right across from smarhers beach. This time, though, things felt very different. Making the reservation was frustrating: I called the woman several times, but she didn’t really explain or answer my questions about packages or discounts. We’d received an email saying we were upgraded for free to a better room. After a stressful trip, we asked about a beach or pool view, but nothing was available, which I understand since I hadn’t called ahead. We then asked for a balcony for our six-night stay, but they couldn’t provide one and seemed confused about balcony availability. My boyfriend made the booking, so I hadn’t requested a particular room in advance, and maybe my expectations were too high. Still, given the price, I wish they’d contact guests after booking to ask about preferred views, especially since online booking doesn’t seem to let you choose. Front desk staff didn’t explain the shuttle, offer the free welcome drink mentioned in the email, or remind us about the free amenities or our breakfast package. They felt unwelcoming. I hope this helps someone. I’m sure they’re busy and overwhelmed, and as a business owner, I don’t blame them.

The restaurant had great food and fairly priced cold drinks, and the pool was relaxing. Staff were kind and eager to help, and the rooms were very clean, comfortable, and well arranged. We had to leave our previous rental at 10 am and couldn’t check in until 3 pm, so I called the hotel. They said they’d hold our bags and text when the room was ready, but when I arrived at 11 am, they gave me a room straight away. The downtown and airport shuttles were very convenient. It’s a little pricey, but it’s Key West, after all. We had a great stay and highly recommend it.

We’ve stayed at Margaritaville in Orlando a few times and loved it, so we tried the Key West location. The price was a bit high, but that was okay. Our room was on the third floor. One section looked like it was being renovated or had a leak, and the carpet was soaked and stank. In the area outside our room, there was no carpet, just smelly padding. We dropped our things and headed downtown, then came back late to find a portable window-venting AC unit. Honestly, it made for a bad night’s sleep.

The grounds were well kept, with pretty plants and seating areas scattered around. Our room was clean and spacious. Smashers beach is within walking distance, and there’s a bar and restaurant on site. The food was great, with several dishes large enough to share if you want a lighter meal.
