Battle Creek Lodge

We found this little lodge in Keystone and wished we’d booked more nights. It’s right in the heart of the Black Hills, with a super convenient location, and the price was fair. Our clean room had everything we needed, and it felt like one of those small businesses that gets almost everything right. The next morning I had a really pleasant chat with one of the owners, who served us some of the best homemade blueberry scones I’ve ever tried.

Cine made our stay especially memorable, giving my kids a history lesson about the place that they’re still talking about. And the homemade baked goodies were a treat, too. I stayed here with my family last week and we had a great time. There’s a warmer, more homey feel to a small family owned hotel. I’d recommend it to anyone heading to Mount Rushmore or Custer state park. 10/10, would recommend!

Quiet and clean, and the locally owned team really tries to make your stay a good one. The owner is friendly and makes the morning breakfast treats herself, which adds a nice personal touch. Booking directly with them costs less than Expedia, too. We’ll definitely come back. Thanks for a great stay!

Room 19, a single king at the end of the building, was spacious and had all the basics: a TV, full-size fridge, microwave, coffee pot, cafe table, comfy side chairs, and a cupboard. The floors were clean, the sheets were soft, and both the room and bathroom were tidy. The bathroom had plenty of fluffy towels, toiletries, a hairdryer, and a wonderfully warm shower with great pressure. Some fixtures, especially in the bathroom, look dated, but the space was very comfortable and immaculately clean. For a high season rate, I was pleasantly surprised. I’d happily return.
