Best Western Inn of Kilgore

The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke, and the AC didn’t work. There were black bugs on parts of the floor, and the bathroom door was coming apart and wouldn’t close properly. The entry door looked as though it had been kicked in before and didn’t shut right. I was overcharged, too. $114 was far too much for this awful experience. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Breakfast was typical Best Western, though the biscuits were hot, the sausage was much better, and the eggs were freshly scrambled. The staff were wonderful and made us feel welcome, almost like family. Our room was very clean, well maintained, and well stocked, with more lighting than usual, which I appreciated. I’d definitely stay again if I were back in the Kilgore area.

The smell was the main problem. The room may have been sanitary otherwise, but it reeked as if smokers had spent over a week in it, and even my packed clothes came out smelling like an ashtray. The bathroom sink light barely worked, really only as a nightlight. I wished I could have gotten my booking fees back and gone to one of the two newer places down the street. When booking, don’t assume a room is non-smoking unless that’s stated or specified before you book.

I was highly disappointed. These hotels are usually nice, but this one looked freshly painted and that was about it. The room entrance was outside, there was a one inch gap all along the side of my door, and an extension cord ran across the room to power the TV. My supposedly non-smoking room smelled of smoke. The price was high for these conditions. Best Western should take its name off this location. Avoid it.
