My family and I have loved our time at High Dunes Resort for years. I own two weeks, one in April and one in July, and have been proud of the place since buying in its first week back in 1985. We've always said owning a timeshare condo isn't as bad as people make it out to be. This year's stay changed how I feel. My yearly maintenance fee has skyrocketed and the special assessment has gone up, but I can't see what that money has paid for. The apartment was deplorable: the rug was dirty, the dining table looked like it came from a care and share place, and there weren't enough towels or blankets. I had to buy a blanket for my granddaughter at Walmart. The dryer doesn't work properly, and the toilet seat has been broken since last year. The swimming pool was filthy, with strainer baskets full of debris and a black, moldy film in the corners at the waterline. The two garbage containers were overflowing too. People said they'd call maintenance, but nobody answered. One person went to complain in person and found nobody there, an hour before closing. HIGH Dunes management committee, get your act together. I like how convenient the units are and that they come fully equipped. My best friend's family rents a house for a week because they have lots of grandkids, but they have to bring all their own bed and bath linens, cookware, dishes, paper towels, and toilet paper. I've visited for the past four years and loved it. It's good value for the money, cozy, and has an open floor plan, an electric fireplace, and two porches, one screened and one open. It's small compared with some Outer Banks rentals and timeshares, but sleeps six, or more if some sleep on the floor. Although it's directly on the beach, the 100 numbered units can't see the ocean because a growing sand dune blocks the view, and they overlook the pool area instead. The 200 and 300 numbered units look over both the pool and the ocean.

The staff at High Dunes resort sorted out an issue with our Airbnb booking quickly and easily. They were polite and accommodating, and we're grateful they made our stay comfortable and pleasant.

We've been coming here for 30 years and love everything about it. These are the best beaches on the east coast, and we just love the place!

The condo was great and had an excellent view. The weather was too cool for me, though that's not the resort's fault, lol. There's no elevator, but they have a dumb waiter for luggage. We go to the outer banks every few years, and this place was worth coming back to. I'll try to stay here again.
