TownePlace Suites by Marriott Kingsville

I stayed at TownePlace Suites Kingsville December 8-9, 2025, and it was one of my worst hotel stays, especially for a Marriott-branded property. The room smelled of smoke, had trash on the floor and what looked like food or tomato sauce on the carpet by the desk. The door and walls were damaged, and it felt run down and poorly cleaned. Front desk coverage was scarce throughout the stay. At check-in nobody was there, so after about 10 minutes I used the desk phone to get someone. The check-in itself was sloppy too: they asked for my name and credit card but never confirmed my dates. When I raised that later, Ashley the GM said confirming dates “is not part of Marriott’s check-in standards.” That surprised me, since other hotels, including other Marriotts, have always confirmed that with me. On December 9, Ashley called to say I should have checked out at noon and needed to remove my things. I thought I was booked through the 10th. Instead of calmly sorting it out, she was abrupt and abrasive and said they had no room for me. When I went downstairs to speak with her, she offered another night for $200, but I’d had enough and decided to leave. She also said there were no rooms available nearby, which seemed false: a quick search showed rooms open at the Hampton across the street. The exchange felt pushy and misleading. She was rude and dismissive, and even rolled her eyes when I asked about my bill. I only stayed one night but was charged $250. Ashley said it was a “late check-out fee” for not leaving at noon, making the total higher than the nightly rate she had quoted for an extra night. When I called later, one staff member said there was no late checkout fee. After checking with someone else, they said it “depends on how long you stay.” That left me with three different explanations and no clear policy. I’d never stay here again or recommend it, given the dirty, smoky room, lack of staff at the desk, unprofessional treatment, misleading information about other hotels, and confusing, excessive bill. I expected normal Marriott standards.

We rely on this hotel for comfortable, worthwhile stays when our group is down here for work, and its convenient location helps. The staff have also gone out of their way to help resolve a situation and have been very accommodating.

My family and I have stopped here several times while traveling to and from the Rio Grand Valley. The staff are friendly, and breakfast is good.

I travel a lot as a Titanium Elite, and this is by far the most disgusting hotel I’ve stayed in. They use truck stop keys to let you use the downstairs restroom. My room smelled terrible, and when I opened the bathroom door in my room, it smelled like sewage. There was nasty stuff in the sink bowl. I slept there, then got out as quickly as I could.
