Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Kinston by IHG

The room was only about three out of five. I also want them to find a safer way to deliver receipts than sliding them halfway under the door where someone else could see or take the customer’s information. I stayed January 9-11, 2026. The clerk greeted me at first, but later became rude. Even as an IHG member, I had to fill in paperwork with my address, since check-in wasn’t paperless. The receptionist wouldn’t give me extra towels and said I’d have to wait until morning when I explained why I needed them. After I came back, I realized nobody had given me the breakfast details, so I asked Carrie at the desk. While I was asking, she cut me off and told me the time was on the wall over there. Worst customer service I’ve had at IHG.

The location works well for what we do in the area, so I’d probably stay here again if needed, though I’d expect less from the staff. On Sunday evening, 10/12, the check-in employee barely spoke or made eye contact, even though he did manage to move us to a double Queen room. The hotel was quiet and peaceful, the room was clean and smelled fine, and the beds were comfortable. Internet worked, and the coffee machines were good. But the shower pressure was awful and the water barely warmed up. The sink pressure was so strong it could’ve peeled paint, which made the shower’s weak flow even more ridiculous. Breakfast was embarrassing: very few choices, and nothing seemed fresh or hot. It was my first stay at this Holiday Inn Express, and I came away a bit disappointed.

The service was good, but the room let the stay down. There were several broken pieces in the outlets, about five ladybugs, and some even landed on the bed. I also saw a reddish stain in the back left corner of the shower. The phone kept ringing and woke other people up. I get why it might ring, but it wasn’t pleasant to listen to.

We walked into the room and saw over 20 ladybugs on the walls and at least three roaches. The receptionist said most of the second-floor rooms had the same bug problem, and that we weren’t the first people to complain that day. We were traveling with a three-year-old who’s terrified of bugs, but she didn’t seem to care or try to help. That felt almost worse than the infestation itself. She said there were no other rooms available here. She checked with another Holiday Inn ten minutes away and said we could move there, but we’d have to pay more for a different room. No discount, no other help, nothing. This hotel has bugs.
