The breakfast supplies were expired, including the cereal and milk, and the sheets felt damp from the humidity and smelled musty, like mildew. There was just one outlet in the room, with lamp and AC cords stretched across the floor, a tripping hazard. Outside, some sketchy people wandered around trying to peer into our windows. I found the place on Expedia for $180 a night. I’ve stayed in better places for half that, and can’t see how this hotel in this condition justifies the price. The one bright spot was the front desk worker. He could barely speak coherent English, but mostly seemed to understand my concerns, I think. I’ll stick with IHG from now on. Cheaper doesn’t always mean better, sanitary, or safe.

The beds were comfortable, and the A/C worked well, but I wouldn’t call the breakfast much of a breakfast. The coffee bag and sugar jar were empty, there was no milk in the fridge or spoon for cereal, and bread was left scattered on the counter beside open Wal*Mart peanut butter and jelly jars apparently meant to be reused the next day. There wasn’t a dedicated breakfast attendant, so I went back to the lobby for help. They eventually brought out coffee, milk, bananas, and mandarin oranges. I skipped breakfast the second morning. I booked two queen beds but got two full beds instead. I missed having a chair and lamp at the desk, and the room didn’t have enough outlets, so charging cables filled the lone nightstand between the beds. The bathroom floor was dirty, with no toilet paper holder or hair dryer. I didn’t see an ice machine, and the vending machine was empty and unplugged, though there were a few sodas and snacks in the lobby. The online photos can be deceiving. Inside, it looked run-down despite renovations that seemed to be taking too long or perhaps had run out of funding. There was a bucket under a roof leak above the lobby, and the nearby carpet was already stained, with only bare floors beyond it.

The rooms were very clean, and the hotel is being remodeled. It’s not a five-star property, and breakfast could be better, but if you need a simple clean room with staff who are willing to help, this works well. See the photos attached to this review. We were in town for a wrestling tournament at the La Crosse Event Center, when hotel prices were high. A travel site through our credit card quoted $130 per night, but calling the hotel directly got us a $70 rate. I hadn’t realized travel sites took so much commission. Managers Pavitra and Sam went out of their way to help without charging extra. Our son needed a shower after his tournament before we drove four and a half hours home, to avoid the risk of skin infections. Other hotels have charged us an extra $25 for a shower after checkout, but Pavitra kindly let him use one a little after the 11 a.m. checkout time.

After a long day on the road, the in-room refrigerator and microwave were a big help, and the TV was great too. The room felt comfortable and restful, with beautiful wood floors that gave it a modern, well-kept look. Everything was very clean and fresh, as if the motel had been renovated recently. For the price, this was one of the best deals we found. It had exactly what we needed for a stop on our trip, and we’d happily stay again. I’d recommend it to anyone passing through.

There was at least one cockroach crawling around, on my laptop by the bedside and on the wall behind the other bed. The tub had something brown in it, and the faucet kept running even when shut off, so I didn’t dare shower. The walls were dirty, with food or drink stains and dust bunnies. The hallway carpet looked as if it hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks, and the front desk staff acted like they didn’t want to be there. This hotel looks nothing like the pictures. Now I’m waiting for my laundry to finish so I can kill any possible cockroach residue or eggs.
