The air conditioning didn’t work on a very hot night, and there wasn’t even one bath towel per guest. The rooms should cost Motel 6 prices. I’d reserved four rooms on Booking.com for $585.90, with beds for eight, but they cancelled my confirmed reservations because I checked in at 8:30 p.m., after their 8 p.m. cutoff. I hadn’t been told about that rule when booking. I assumed that if I didn’t show up, they’d hold the room and charge my card anyway. Kate at Timbercrest tried calling an hour before the cancellation, but I was driving without signal. I had to rebook at a much higher rate, and the three rooms we got had only five beds, so three of us slept on the floor. I paid $815.74. There was a microwave in the rooms, and coffee was available at the office.

The beds, pillows, and carpet were awful and dirty, and the place was substandard at best. We paid $446 for two nights, then got charged $50 for a service animal because they said it needed extra cleaning. Our dog is a snitch mix. The day after we left, they charged my card another $80 for extra cleaning. The air conditioner cord had been taped together, and the refrigerator cord was draped over the counter and plugged into the wall. They took advantage of the lack of other available rooms and of a disabled child.

I had to sleep in my car because everywhere else was booked. I’d reserved a stay for a work conference and brought my dog since dogs are allowed, but the desk woman turned us away because he weighed 50 pounds and the lodge limit was 10. I can’t think of a breed that weighs under 10 pounds. Booking and Expedia both said dogs could weigh up to 66 pounds, so I checked again. The woman told me to read the fine print on the hotel’s website. She showed no remorse and basically told us to get out. This was my first review ever. I’m easygoing and know misunderstandings happen, but this was unbelievable. Reserve at your own risk.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable, and they gave us a free upgrade to an upstairs king after saying they were sold out of queens. But it felt overpriced. There was a covered spot to park during check-in, though the owner/manager had her fancy SUV there, so we couldn’t use it while it was raining. That seemed like a warning about the service to come. The room had no modern features, not even a bowed shower curtain rod for a bit more room. Thin walls meant we were grateful our neighbor kept the TV low enough for us to rest. The fridge was there but unplugged. Unplugging and plugging in those little fridges just wears out the system, even if it saves the owner a few pennies on electricity. That sums up this owner/manager, though we pay for the room and don’t benefit from those savings. Next time I’ll drive a few miles farther south and stay at the Best Western for about the same price. The town there seems classier, without loud cars and motorbikes visiting nearby businesses all night.

We were quoted one price by phone and had to pay more when we arrived. The desk clerk was rude, and the room wasn’t worth $85. When we asked who owned the hotel, we were told to leave. They then charged us for using the restroom and messing up the bed covers. We left, and we’ll never return. I wish I’d read the reviews first. Most may be old, but the hotel hasn’t changed. Stay somewhere else, or get sleeping bags and a tent. Your money will be better spent.
