Smart Stay Inn

We checked several rooms on different sides of the building, including the boarded-up back section, and every one was awful. They smelled strongly of marijuana, the sheets were filthy and had cigarette burns, and one door had demonic writing on it. Outside another room were cans of duster and disgusting towels. We’d stayed here two years ago without a problem, so we booked four nights for over $300 this time. We wound up leaving without staying and had to find somewhere else around midnight. When we asked for a refund, the property basically said too bad. Booking.com said it was up to the property, and after contacting them they still wouldn’t refund us. We got just $11 in travel credit, which felt like a slap in the face. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had, and I absolutely wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We left after about an hour. My husband and I had just lain down for ten minutes when police sirens sounded from across the parking lot, followed by five handgun shots. We were understandably uncomfortable, so we packed up and went. The next day, the manager refused even a partial refund over the phone and hung up on us. The room had ripped, stained sheets with paw-print marks, and the hand towels were stained too, with clean ones placed over them. Marijuana smelled around the grounds and even stronger inside, where housekeeping had done a poor job of covering it up. The location right off the highway was convenient, but it’s in a very bad part of town. It was late and we were tired, but that should have been our cue to keep driving. If you can stay somewhere else, do that.

Felt unsafe here. There were roaches on the walls, the toilet was broken and wouldn’t flush, and the lamps kept flashing instead of staying lit. The sheets had burn holes, and there was no breakfast. They didn’t offer another room or any way to make things better. I showed him pictures and videos of all the issues and didn’t even get a thank you. In short, this place is a dump.

This older motel seems to have been given a new name and a coat of paint. My non-smoking room still reeked of cigarette and pot smoke. The shower drain was clogged, the hot and cold settings were reversed, and there were big water stains on the ceiling. They advertise rates for long-term stays.
