Cute, quaint, and a great little spot for an overnight traveler or a date-night getaway. Sunset Motel in Lake City has a lovely lakeside view, welcomes pets, and has been updated with new amenities. The price is easily the most affordable in all of Lake City. The word “motel” can put some people off, but this place puts that stigma to rest. 10/10, I’d recommend it!

It felt like stepping back in time, with rooms that are a perfect 1970s time capsule. The interiors may not suit everyone, but they were immaculate, and the price was great for the area. I was in town for Naval Basic Training graduation, and the room brought back such fond childhood memories. There’s no coffee in the room, but Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are almost within walking distance. The owners clearly care about the property. They have a vegetable garden out back and pretty flowers along the parking lot. It gave me big Schitt's Creek motel vibes, in the best possible way.

One of the worst places on earth. The room and bathroom were tiny, there was always a weird noise from the main office, and the worker and other guests were rude. Small TV with no channels.

The room was clean, and we slept really well. It’s an old place with wood paneling and a noisy window air conditioner, but that 1950s charm is what we like. We first found it after getting lost in Chicago and driving miles looking for somewhere to stay for the night. We stopped in again the next year during the same trip from southern Ontario through Chicago, then Minnesota and back to Ontario. Another good stay and a wonderful sleep. It reminds us of a time when life seemed simpler.
