Our mornings on the back lawn, coffee in hand, were a favorite. We also had a great time kayaking and paddle boarding on the lake. The resort was peaceful and beautiful, and when our car gave us trouble, the staff were very helpful in finding a mechanic. We loved staying here.

There’s a shared refrigerator, microwave and toaster, though no food prep items in the rooms. The rooms are cozy, and private bathrooms are down the hall. Everything seemed very clean. There’s no air conditioning or TV, but plenty to do instead: lawn games, water toys, bikes, kayaks and standing boards. The little beach is inviting, and there’s outdoor seating, including a beautiful back porch. Inside the large hotel are several places to sit, a big dining area and a fun game room. The building feels like a step back in time, with old photos, classic books on the bookshelves and antique furniture. Staff were happy to accommodate us and thought of extras like towels and blankets for outside. We’d love to come back.

I booked just a few days ahead in the middle of June and paid $143, which felt like good value for such a fun stay. I hadn’t known what to expect, but it turned out to be a gorgeous, huge old mansion, either converted into a hotel or simply a very old hotel. It sits right on the water, with beautiful scenery, and it was definitely affordable.

Having all our guests stay at the Fountain Point Resort let us turn our daughter’s wedding into a whole weekend together. She and her partner wanted the feel of grown up sleep away camp, and the resort delivered. We essentially had the place to ourselves, since our guests rented every room in the lodge. We’ve also written a separate Google review for Foxglove Farm, where we hosted the wedding. Pairing Foxglove Farm with the Fountain Point Resort worked perfectly. The staff made a huge difference. For Friday’s welcome bonfire, they received our alcohol delivery, chilled the drinks with ice in big buckets and brought everything down when it was time. After the wedding reception on Saturday, our guests came back to sliders and truffles fries with all the fixings for a late night snack and after party in the main house. A bonfire in the very late hours carried the evening into early morning. On Sunday, staff had already cleaned the dining room before we arrived a little early to set up brunch. When the caterer forgot plates, napkins and utensils, the staff found glass plates for us and drove to retrieve the missing items. They even put the dirty plates in the dishwasher afterward. The white cottages along Lake Leelanau make a spectacular setting, and guests enjoyed the lake “toys,” including fishing rods, small boats and nets, as well as relaxing in adirondack chairs. The cottages were comfortable, beds included, and came in different sizes, from one bedroom to several bedrooms, so we could group families and friends together. Guests on tighter budgets could book a single room in the main lodge. Between the setting and the above and beyond service, it was a truly magical weekend. Many thanks to Theo, Eric, Kathy, Ken, Elaine and Jason and everyone at the Fountain Point who made it special. We can’t recommend the Fountain Point more highly.

I only meant to spend one night here after camping, just to sleep in a bed and get a good shower before heading home. Instead, I left wishing I’d booked a couple more days. The main house has an old school hotel feel, and the whole place is charming and laid back. I spent most of my time reading and snacking on the porch, then later curled up with a book on the comfy leather couch in the main room. My room had a king sized bed, plus a separate little room with a twin and its own sink. I slept great. There are no TVs, which I liked, but the WiFi worked. Toilets and showers are in bathrooms down the hall. Guests can also use a room with a small coffee bar and a fridge for their food. The beach is nice, and they let guests use kayaks and canoes. There are pool tables and loads of other games and activities too. My family and I usually stay at falling waters lodge each summer, but it’s become too crowded and expensive. I think we’ll bring the family here from now on. I really enjoyed my stay.
