Carriage House Motor Inn

I booked a July 16, 2025 stay at CHMI through "hotels.com" on Dec 22, 2024. My confirmation said cancellation was free before July 14, 2025. I canceled on July 7, 2025, and Hotels.com confirmed it was done and that I wouldn’t be charged. But "Rodeway Inns," which I think owns CHMI, charged my card without my knowledge. Hotels.com told me CHMI wouldn’t refund me. I tried calling CHMI, but the number doesn’t work. Be careful if you book there.

For a weekend hiking Algonquin and Iroquois Peaks, this place had what I needed. The rooms were clean and comfortable, nothing fancy, and there was a well stocked convenience store and a brewery within walking distance. The ADK loj was 20 minutes away. The office is across the street, and breakfast doesn’t start until 7 am, which was a bit of a letdown. Still, it was a solid place to stay.

The carriage house office is closed, so check-in happens at the Rodeway Inn across the street. Breakfast is free and about as basic as it gets, though the food is fine, and there’s a fun pancake making machine. The rooms are surprisingly big, quiet, and comfortable, making them a good place to crash before or after a hike. There was an oddly loud buzz from an exterior light outside our room, but we were able to unscrew it. The staff were super nice on this visit. A special thanks to Angel on housekeeping, who could see we were tired and insisted we take a banana in case we got hungry. We did, and it was a lifesaver. Thanks, Angel!

We came for a weekend of hiking a couple of the high peaks, and this motel worked out great for the price. It was clean and quiet, with very friendly staff. Downtown Lake Placid was a short distance away, the Cascade trailhead was only 10 minutes away, and there was a cute corner store within walking distance. The hot tub was a great bonus after a long hike. We’ll definitely stay here again.
